Out of District and Non-Resident Students
Out of district students can be accepted when space is available.
There is limited space for non-resident students in the Online Program. This includes students who currently attend other schools in the district through a Choice Transfer Request. Due to OSPI rules there are limited spaces available for non-resident students in Single District Online School Programs.
Once the student has been accepted to OCEAN K-12 the family will be required to complete a Choice Transfer Request.
Part Time Enrollment
Students can only be part-time with the approval of the OCEAN Principal. Elementary students cannot generally be enrolled part time. Part-time enrollment for Family Partnership Program will be approved for a student to take classes at Blue Heron or Port Townsend High School that are not offered in OCEAN K-12. Online Program students must be enrolled in at least three classes at OCEAN. Running Start and West Sound Tech students must be enrolled in OCEAN K-12 at least 50%. Any exceptions are only made with the pre-approval of the OCEAN principal.
After Application Submission
For next school year admissions we will begin reviewing applications in April. Starting in April we will contact students and families for interviews who meet the enrollment criteria. After the interview students and families will be notified of the decision for admittance. Applications received after the end of June will be reviewed in August.
During the school year, we will continue to accept applications as space is available. After September 1 will respond to applications within five school days and we will schedule an interview with students who meet the enrollment criteria. The application, interview, admissions and enrollment process typically takes 1-2 weeks.
Students new to the Port Townsend School District will need to complete the school district new student enrollment after acceptance.
Admissions Criteria
Students will be admitted to OCEAN School if they meet the admissions criteria and space is available. The criteria will be evaluated in both the application and interview. Admissions criteria:
